Wearing: Discount Universe shirt, vintage blouse, Asos skirt and Dr Martens boots.As you can probably tell, this shirt is approximately one trillion sizes too big for me BUT it's perfect for layering. I wasn't meant to buy anything this month but I had to buy this vintage blouse for $6 plus postage because I knew deep down that's the kind of regret one takes with them to the grave. One thing I forgot though when it comes to buying vintage is just how itchy old synthetic fabrics can feel against naked skin. The plastic buttons were maybe clear once but they've aged terribly and are the colour of pale ale so I plan on replacing them soon when I stumble upon the perfect, tacky flower buttons. I feel like Enid Coleslaw would have a really good button collection if she weren't already enamored with pop culture and into sewing rather than filling her sketchbook. As always, citing a fictional character as a reference to steal clothing/ craft supplies from is generally counter productive but hey! I've always felt more represented by figures of the imagination, rather than real people.
Fluorescent yellow has always been a colour which has both transfixed and terrified me. Periodically fashion bloggers will employ it in contrast to their own monochrome wardrobe and in the blink of an eye the shade will fall out of favour and vanish in an instant. Unlike those dime a dozen fashion bloggers, Victoria Rowe has managed to employ this tricky shade in the most clever of ways- paired with the sassiness of a Disney Villain. That's the impression I was struck with and couldn't shake- the smouldering eyeshadow, slick black boots and the sensational leather jacket all screamed evildoer. It seems fitting that while the world eagerly awaits more trailers for the latest DC blockbuster, Suicide Squad (not sure how to feel about the title tbh), I trawl the Westminster archives for a designer who inspires such beauty and darkness. Purposefully threadbare sweaters and skirts shrouded the body in multiple layers and removed the usual sweet and honestly tacky connotations of fluorescent yellow. Instead of resenting what that peculiar shade of yellow represents amongst commercial practice I have something else to consider now.

The highlight of my week was when my geologist friends called quartz a *basic bitch*. Now I have a piece of quartz but it was given to me as a gift by my big brother. Nonetheless! I wanted to create an outfit in defense of the most common component of our Earth, silica. Let me make one thing clear though, quartz does not offer any health benefits and amethyst can't cure a nasty hangover (unfortunately). It does however make a very cute prop for photos and lends itself to the psychedelic mind-bending period of the 1960s. I hate festival style as much as the next person but I do love the idea of wearing a rainbow outfit in the middle of Winter and basking in the rare rays of sunshine in the comfort of my very own garden. It also gave me the chance to wear this amazing shirt from Discount Universe and cite the premise of one of Susie Bubble's most recent outfits post Seven Colours Take 2. I couldn't quite get the quartz crystal to cast a rainbow on my face but I did have a lot of fun trying!
