I can't believe I've had this jacket for months now and haven't worn it once! Well that's not completely true I wore it once but hadn't looked at it since then. However, it's the first time I've featured it on this blog and I bet you're all dying to know where it came from! The jacket is faux leather made by Nasty Gal and the back panel was hand painted by artist Esther Kim from estherlovesyou. Esther ran a competition on her instagram several months ago now and lo and behold- I was the winner! This outfit was actually meant to go with this moodboard but I kept putting it off. I was worried that it might feel too cliche or whatever, but I also felt like my old hair wasn't really on par with the whole outfit. Since having it cut and colour I feel much more confident in my own body, but also my ability to create outfits which aren't for the male gaze and are purely an escape from the mundane. Hence why this outfit is more like an exaggeration of the final scene from Grease (1978) with some Cry-Baby (1990) thrown in for good measure but movie nostalgia aside this look was inspired by real women.

Today's outfit is equal parts craft techniques and more ethereal ~witchy vibes~. This dress is such a special piece and I always feel so potent and powerful when I wear it. Originally I was inspired by all things haberdashery but extended that metaphor to mother of pearl buttons and yarn for something warm. These are the last photos I took at Philip Island but hopefully I'll be back soon! It was so hard deciding what clothes to being and even though we were only visiting for three days I wanted to make the most of it. I can now see why packing for Fashion Week is such a big deal, and why weeks of deliberation are spent making these decisions. Packing these shoes probably took the most room, but each piece took up a considerable amount of space. In my defense, a winter wardrobe will need to have a little more weight and texture to it. I have every intention of channelling my inner witch next season, which means lots of long flowing dresses with some Stevie Nicks vibes. It's so hard not to feel influenced by the 70s inspiration that swept the runway last season, but as always I've interpreted using my own colour palette and aesthetic.
It's no secret that I adore everything about Ammerman Schlösberg, but I love this collection in particular as it reminds me of Sailor Neptune and Uranus from the Sailor Moon anime. While I'm not surprised that the English dubbed version censored the true nature of Neptune and Uranus' relationship I still find it pretty disappointing. Think of how many girls could have been helped if they knew their attraction to other girls was represented in mainstream media! Ugh, this is what makes me mad. While I'm still on the topic of girl crushes, the makeup and hair styling for this shoot totally makes me think of Harley Quinn. Yet another badass female villain with quite literally a clownish style but is still able to command respect. While the clothes aren't in themselves at the same level Ammerman Schlösberg maintain themselves at today, all these different associations are what give this collection its strength. It's also really interesting to see how the brand has developed since its inception and the slight differences in each campaign. No longer are models wearing six inch platform heels but the doll hospital of Fall/Winter 2015 was a sure fire hit, striking the perfect balance between Gothic and Lolita.
