Real witches don't wear black

Tuesday, May 19, 2015

Wearing: Meadham Kirchhoff X Topshop dress, deadstock tights, POMS earrings, Topshop zebra print jacket and Atilin saddle shoes.

One of my favourite things to do is take a well-known troupe and deconstruct it and then rebuild it in my own image. Witchy chic is one of those things normally associated with lots of black, dried rose petals and wooden trinket boxes but instead I decided to make it more cute and kitsch. While I admit this look definitely needs like a cute pentagram necklace or something I am happy with how it turned out. I've been so busy wearing my Asos faux fur coat that I totally forgot about this zebra piece for a little while. It's not exactly versatile but it is super fun to wear with other patterns such as this dress. The weather is finally cold enough that I can wear these cute tights again and I no longer feel that it's necessary to wear a petticoat with this dress. I think it demonstrates that slowly I am growing in confidence not just in terms of my outfits but also my body type.

Wearing: Topshop faux fur zebra jacket, vintage dress and Nicholas Kirkwood heels.

At first I wasn't quite sure how to wear this zebra print faux fur jacket. Animal prints aren't really my thing but I fell in love with the plush texture and allure of having something so bold in my closet. Admittedly it's very reminiscent of the types of pencil cases and cosmetic bags you buy for cheap at Daiso but it's definitely bringing me out of my comfort zone. Styling it is a challenge but a fun one that I much prefer over say, trying to write an essay after work or putting a collage together. Plus it gave me a chance to take these gorgeous Nicholas Kirkwood shoes out for a spin in all their avant garde glory. I've been pleasantly surprised about how much wear I've gotten out of this vintage pastel piece as well which has suddenly become my go-to staple piece. It has a very feminine silhouette (in terms of traditional Western values that is) which I've tried to wear a number of ways but this is perhaps one of the most outlandish.
