The New Crowd.

Wednesday, March 2, 2011

I'm sure all of you are familiar with the more famous brands such as Louis Vuitton,Chanel,Prada,Dior and so on,but its rare that I find someone who knows all the other labels-even the ones with equal prestige and fame such as Celine.
Before I continue, some of you may not know that John Galliano has been fired from Dior because of an anti-semitic rant at a restaurant as well as other Hitler-fan comments that were taped.

So today I'm presenting three rising stars that have definitely made their mark on the Fall or Spring 2011 runways.
Presenting Hakaan,Haider Ackermann and Meadham Kirchhoff.

Hakaan Yildirim has quickly ascended to the ranks of fashion's elite based on pure talent. He won the Young Fashion Designer Prize at Istanbul’s Textile and Apparel Exporter Associations while still at university, and  also won the French ANDAM award for new talent last year.
His theme this Fall 2011 echoed the dominant masculine-feminine trend that was everywhere this season,
although there were some slightly more feminine-yet incredibly strict pieces. The dresses came in red, black or white. The rest of the collection was more androgynous. His black leather outerwear had an oversize, masculine feel.

Colombian designer Haider Ackerman launched his namesake line in 2001 and joins the ranks of notable alumni of the Antwerp Fashion Academy of Fine Arts (Dries Van Noten and Ann Demeulemeester are the others). He’s touted as a young Rick Owens for his abstract work with leather and avant-garde draping. His designs remained under the radar as one of fashion's best kept secrets until celebrities caught on quickly and his popularity increased tremendously in the past months. In November of last year,Karl Lagerfeld named Ackermann  as the designer he'd like to see take over from him at Chanel. For Spring 2011,he was inspired by the film Ran by cult director Akira Kurosawa. The themes were mixed-there was the deshabille notion with dresses that  plunged to the navel in front, or, more daringly, came with curving slits at the pelvis. There was also "between strength and fragility" with leather vests and jackets blousoned over soft silk pants and a long pleated skirt.

If there was the polar opposite of the good taste trend pioneered by the fashion pack, notably Celine,it would have to be Meadham Kirchhoff, and the fashion world is divided.Their Spring 2011 collection was based on a girl who fearlessly throws clothes on herself without caring. Its difficult to decipher the outfit and whatever notion they may carry. The layering is awkward, and the hair and makeup out of a circus-gypsy festival gone goth. But there is something there-fresh,rebellious-which could potentially please any woman. And any woman could wear it.Working in candy colors of lavender, yellow, and pink, then veering into carnal reds and blacks, Meadham and Kirchhoff piled on their clothes with girlish gimmicks, ruffles and the lot,and turned it on its head-making the sickly sweet look ill:the garments were often frayed at the hems, the fabric burned at places,off-size,almost clownish collars and sleeves.Their angle on the battle of the polite and formal looks so often seen,is-if no other word can describe this-unique.
