If you have been reading my posts, you know how much I emphasise on quality.Never buy things that seem cheap.Note:I said SEEM cheap-expensive things may look horribly cheap too.Invest a few more rupees in something that will last and trust me material is always a good indication. If you have no problem buying leather, please do so.It lasts forever.Of course there are other materials that endure just as amazingly too.
Every woman should own:
1.A nice metallic heel (In strappy sandal form),not a platform.Preferably in silver or gold.
2.Shoe-boots.It rains often here and you do not want to be seen with wet feet.I may add that we live in Mauritius and even in the dead of winter, you do not need a boot that goes over your knee.
And please, please, never do this:wearing a pair of over the knee boots with a micromini and a boob tube. Why would anyone want to attract attention that way?I have seen it so many times here. Why do you want lecherous men going "how much?"
I have the most beautiful pair ever from Aldo. They have been through rain, mud, gravel, and they still look perfect. If I had bought a pair of shoes that were poorly made, they wouldn't have stood two months.Trust me,I know by experience. Here it is below:
My next pair for winter will be these:I just have to save for the next four months.
3.Flats.Please,no flip-flops on the street. If you are going to go out, dress your feet properly.Ballerinas are fine, but they seem to have finished their time now and honestly I can't look at another pair.I don't own one, anyway. If I had to,I would own something like this:
I would also like to see some variation instead of just ordinary Converse. Here's my pick:
4.A great pump-these look great everywhere, for work, under jeans or a dress-they just are a basic.Pick one in a neutral colour and you will be forever fixed.
5.Wedges.Every woman looks better in a heel than a flat, and these are just as comfortable.
I got a beautiful white pair from l'Entrepot. You can find them easily here, just be careful of the wedge. If its made in fibre and the fibre sticks out you are in trouble because it will fray.
Now that I've shown you the basics, some rules:
1.Never ever wear a stiletto heel with a micro-short.You will look slutty.
The length of the heel is in proportion with the length of your short or skirt. The longer the length of the short/skirt,the higher you can go on the heel.
2.For night, opt for the metallic strappy sandal or the platform.Wedges and flats are best left for the day.
3.Use common sense. You are NOT going to wear 5-inch heels on the cobbled streets of Port Louis,no matter how fabulous you look.
4.Care is needed, people! And you can get shoe-love here!If you find that the rubber has worn out, that your beloved shoe is now sporting scars,do NOT throw it away unless it really cannot be worn anymore.Go get it fixed-there are a ton of cobblers around. With leather, you need leather-care products.
Now I will talk about a particular shoe designer that I love and that you probably haven't heard about.
I am not going to go into details on Manolo Blahnik,Guiseppe Zanotti, Jimmy Choo and Christian Louboutin, because you guys know them already.(Well I hope you know them already because they are mainstream and part of film/celebrity culture. If you don't,google them straight away)
But you may not know Nicholas Kirkwood.
I am IN LOVE with his designs. Its fierce architecture-a real work of art.Basically, its one of these shoes which turns a perfect outfit into a masterpiece. It brings you to a whole other DIMENSION.
See what I mean?
