Now where to find a good coat:You need to search well.I haven't found a shop that sells them, yet. If they do,its not good material-after a month of usage it would probably look decoloured ,and very worn out.Invest in good material.Have it made,if you have to.Pay attention to the buttons-they are often a sign of whether one is paying for something well made or cheaply manufactured.Metallic buttons as seen on Burberry clothing are a very good sign-and cheap, flimsy, plastic buttons are warnings. If you are fairly confident that the coat is of good material but the buttons look cheap, buy new ones and sew them on.Job done in two minutes.
The perfect example of the most gorgeous coat I have seen on the runways so far is the one Anja Rubik wore for the Fendi show. The creations were inspired by the notion of "the art teacher",who,in the words of Silvia Venturini, was "still wild enough to wipe her paintbrushes in her hair and unleash the animal within".You could LIVE in this coat.It could be worn anywhere-going to tuitions on a cold morning, out shopping,as a cover up for dinner in a restaurant, for a chic coffee break,on top of your work outfit...the list is endless.
We are presently in Summer, which means that more often that not there is rain. The coat here is priceless.Throw it on and you will look fabulously chic and not shivering and drenched. If you choose your material right, the coat will not feel heavy-like an airier,no-cling version of second skin.
Trans-seasonal dressing:Come May to June, the temperatures will start falling. What better way to look AMAZING than with a coat?I am sick of seeing people wearing one too many jumpers and giving a rather correct impression of an Inuit, and then dying of sweat when temperatures go back to normal around the middle of the day.Just take a rather long sleeved top, pair it with your coat, leave it unbuttoned if it gets hot again, pair with shorts and black-neutral leggings with a good heel and you are ready to go.
Shorts:By Shorts I mean not the cheap, torn to bits,butt-cheek bearing, hooker kind.I mean a pair that cover your bum ENTIRELY and are not stuck to the leg, that is there are some inches between your shorts and your leg.
Keep the super short denim for the beach,if you have the body (and the behind) to pull it off.Opt rather for material shorts-preferably in a neutral tone. And please, for the sake of my sanity,no "playgirl" "I'm SEXY" or whatever design on the back.Keep it simple.
And as for winter? When the time comes,I will write more.Lets stick to the current season for now.
And for men? Before I write on coats for men, please let me clarify a few points. It is UNACCEPTABLE for men to walk around with half of their bums in the air-when you wear jeans, you wear them properly and it should fasten just lower than your stomach,or on the belly-button,not lower than your crotch. We don't need to say hairy pieces of flesh. It is only here that I see that the trend "race to the crotch"has purveyed. If you want to wear jeans, please don't let them be skin tight. We don't need to see every muscle. We don't need to see stomach and hips flowing over the jeans.Make them well fitted and straight leg,in a darker shade of blue-always a winner.
Men here have suits but I haven't seen a nice coat. You should have one. It's better than the F.B.I"federal
booby inspector" jumpers you wear.It looks like James Dean sort of chic. Here is the photo to prove it.
Men,you want to look like THAT.Its far better than wearing your old school tracksuit,or heavy jumpers that make you sweat.
So invest! Will a coat make you look gay?No!
Mauritian shops probably don't make coats for men.So go and get them made.Choose a slightly heavier fabric in black, dark brown or burgundy.Wear with a nice straight legged pair of trousers and nice shoes.
There is nothing wrong with getting something made and tailored for you, people. Its one heck of an advantage than seeing two dozen other people wearing the exact same t-shirt,jeans or whatever as you are.
