"Another random post by this girl who's left the country?" you may be thinking right now. Well, you're partly correct. But it's not random. Yep - Style Mauritius is back, though the blogger herself may not be in the country (that is, Mauritius) at certain points in time.
Doesn't stop me from writing about fashion.
Doesn't stop me from updating you on what's going on.
Doesn't stop me from doing something I love.
So I shall post every Friday night (including this Friday) and hopefully this will continue for a good period of time. Check my Facebook page for updates: http://www.facebook.com/StyleMauritius

At this very moment, I am freezing, it's snowing and gale force winds whip my hair around (but sadly not in the hair commercial way. The crazy messed up "where the HELL have you been" way. That said, I have a great tip for when its cold and you want to let your hair down without going all crazy hair lady - stick around to the end of this post and you'll find out). A Mauritian girl with earmuffs. A Mauritian girl with several layers of clothing. A Mauritian girl wearing wellington boots. I could not be further away from my home, ein?
But luckily you, back home, reading this, have beautiful weather (trust me, when you feel that your ears may turn black and fall off, you get very homesick), apart from the rather dismal episode of cyclone Felleng. Your mouths taste bursting ripe tropical fruit, you can smell the rain and feel the damp earthy soil beneath your toes, you feel the cool breeze and the white sand, the sea rushing up to meet you, at bathing water temperature. You are surrounded by the lush, sometimes vibrant, sometimes tranquil shades of green of the forests, mountains, and sugar canes.
You are children of the sun.
This is why I love The Preppy Muse so much. Because it is the embodiment of this very spirit, a bohemian-esque freedom, but with a very chic nod to Model Off Duty Style (no wonder, since the owner is Jasmina Ruben).
But don't think you can just pop into the nearest store...because The Preppy Muse is a nomad shop. There are specific dates where the clothes are sold, in specific locations. This basically means you have to always be on the lookout as to when the next date is.
And the closest date on the calendar is...Today!
Wednesday the 6th of February: 11h to 19h, Centre Equilibre, Trianon (behind Mr. Bricolage)
the next date is on Saturday:
Saturday 9th: 17h to 21h, Cap Tamarin (Shoprite), Tamarin
Campaign Details:

Model: Sandra Chesnais
Assistant Photographer: Bhim Bulloram
Styling, Make-up and Hair: Jasmina Ruben
Each of the pieces currently reflect what is en vogue at the moment, but they are also very timeless (that blouse below, for example), and I cannot imagine a better setting to wear them than Mauritius.
So why The Preppy Muse?
Jasmina Ruben:
I've actually been holding private sales for four years but on a smaller scale. I used to buy my products from the different places I visited on holiday, but once the small stock was sold out, I felt frustrated. Then, I quit my job last year, and decided to dedicate my time in trying to bring seasonal trends to Mauritius!
I love to shop like every girl, but it's even more frustrating here: You see the looks currently in fashion in international magazines, but you have to wait to get those looks here (in Mauritius) and by the time they arrive (here I will add, if they ever arrive!) they are already out of fashion!
I try to please the working women, casual chic chicks and those who love easy casual wear. I guess my main concern with The Preppy Muse outfits is to give girls the tools to adapt each item into their very own style, and be fashionable!
The campaign really captures the essence of the pieces and also the environment where they can be worn. All too often Mauritian women complain that they don't have a lot of styling choices. These images are proof that it's all about the details, the way the clothes are worn - the simplest blouse can make up a wow outfit. But obviously, for that to happen, you need the right pieces as building blocks for your outfit. Buy versatile items you know can be worn in many different ways.
Don't miss out!
And on a final note...So, what's my tip concerning crazy wind blown hair? (If you don't want to braid it or tie it up, that is)
It's simple. Instead of wrapping your scarf around your neck, wrap it around your hair and neck, not too tight, but enough. It's a look I remember from Roberto Cavalli Fall 2011. Photos from Style.com
