Here are the Trends seen this Winter 2012/13. I encourage you all to play this song, Suggestions (Orelia has Orchestra) whilst reading, it helps set the mood (thanks to Emilie Joelle Benoit)!
War Anthem
I think this was the most dominant mood of the whole season. Yes, there were beautiful fairy-tale-esque pieces (exemplified at Alexander McQueen), beautiful prints, rich colour and optimistic touches, but a dark, minimal, 'get ready for the bad times' feel prevailed.

There were elements of decadence, and you really got that feel from the Louis Vuitton show-for all the bright colours and print, the structure of the outfits was strict. Perhaps signalling optimism in dark times?
Browns, beige, purple and dark blue, coats with a rougher texture were all seen, minimally composed outfits in sober shades.
Dries Van Noten
An army-utilitarian vibe was present throughout the majority of the collections seen. Studs, sleek leather, sharp cuts, architectural structure and proportion.
Alexander Wang
Stella McCartney
Givenchy
Chanel
Off the runway, I've noticed a couple of the best fashion bloggers rocking army camouflage print, pushing the 'War' trend to new heights.
Here Bryan Boy wore a couple of pieces from the ACNE store in Stockholm, which are in fact floral print that resemble camouflage.
Decadence
War and Decadence. Two seemingly contradictory yet very real (don't look further than the present: war and horror in some countries, luxurious excess in others) themes were present this season in full glory.
Ralph Lauren
Dolce & Gabbana
Metallics (especially gold), pearls, rich hues, silky fabrics, and lots of brocade.
Pushing the trend further into otherworldly regal category is undoubtedly Alexander McQueen.

What you will be wearing this season:
The Outfit:
The plain Balmain crewneck sweater and embellished trousers. You could also do the reverse, wearing an embellished top and plain trousers.
Don't forget to tuck in the sweater just near the belt buckle.
The Detail:
Opt for luxurious brocade and bouncy peplum
(In case you're wondering, brocade is a rich fabric woven with a raised pattern, usually with gold or silver thread, and a peplum, huge in 2012, is a a short gathered or pleated strip of fabric attached at the waist of a woman’s jacket, dress, or blouse to create a hanging frill or flounce)
Proenza Schouler
Mary Katrantzou
The Skirt:
Choose between A-line (that is, a skirt that resembles the letter A in that it starts with a narrow waist and then flares out) or Skater (a high waisted skirt, shorter than knee length, and very light, like an ice skater's skirt).
Jonathan Saunders
Victoria Beckham
The Accessory:
It's all about capes and gloves.
Comme des Garcons
Lanvin
The Hair:
Dip Dyed in All Shades
Prada
Haider Ackermann
The Print:
Make it Monochrome. I also loved the comic print sweatshirts at Balenciaga!
Balenciaga
Versace
The Colour:
Purple
Prada
Gucci
The make-up:
Dark Romantic
Major Changes
Raf Simons leaves Jil Sander, replaced by Jil Sander herself, whilst Stefano Pilati leaves Yves St Laurent, replaced by Hedi Slimane.
Below I've included the two last collections of the designers for their respective brands (at the time):

Yves St Laurent
Inspiration
Some photos have been running through my mind at such velocity that it would be a disservice not to share the images with you all.
The navy blue coat paired with super bright green neon shades. How awesome is that?!
I am now obsessed with short suits.
There is something about a certain calibre of elegance that only comes with advanced age.
Long live the last days of summer

Before you leave this page, though, I would like to draw your attention to this:
"For generations, the Chagossians lived on the Chagos Archipelago in the Indian Ocean. But in the 1960s, the U.S. and U.K. governments expelled the Chagossians from their homes to allow the United States to build a military base on Diego Garcia. Facing social, cultural, and economic despair, the Chagossians now live as a marginalized community in Mauritius and Seychelles and have not been allowed to return home. The recent passing of the oldest member of the exiled population underscores the urgent need to improve the human rights of the Chagossians. We cannot let others die without the opportunity to return home and obtain redress. The United States should provide relief to the Chagossians in the form of resettlement to the outer Chagos islands, employment, and compensation."
It goes without saying that it is absolutely devastating and Chagossians need to return home!
