The Festive Style

Thursday, December 15, 2011

Before the article starts, I wanted to point out that this post is my 50th!I am sooo happy that my blog gets as many views as it does, that people really interact and want more, and that most of all I have the support of you, my readers!42, 000 views so far and counting!
In case you didn't know, here is the mission statement of my blog:
Style Mauritius, free and accessible to everyone who has an internet connection, brings you the best in local and in international fashion and what's happening fashion wise, the developments in our local industry, style tips and lots more!It breaks the ideology that fashion is superficial, as I have written that fashion is language, that communicates just as efficiently as writing and talking, and shows that fashion is accessible to all, no matter what your financial situation may be!

Back to the post!

Only two final destinations in my Best Buys of December (island shopping tour) left, and In'Am by Llup is one of them.
I love the graphic approach to decoration, the meticulous composition of outfits and the way they are displayed, and the super nice staff!
Christmas songs included in the shopping experience.

This sweater on the right is on sale-50% off!

Cashmere breathes, which makes it one of the best material options to wear both day and night.

I love the graphic, animal print scarves! Very much following the 'Africa' trend of Summer 2012!

The prettiest top this summer is shown on the far right, which comes in Barbie pink and in calming blue too.

I love going to a shop and seeing a really polished, pristine display of the pieces showcased as is the case at In'Am.

Tops that you can combine with loads of pieces and really make the look your own:

This dress, below, must be worn with brogues for a total Alexa Chung moment!

Festive Style is all about glamour!
This time of the year, with Christmas and New Year just around the corner, is the perfect excuse to go full on in glamour infused outfits that are embedded with a hint of drama, for one striking look that will turn heads and imbue you with all the majesty of a true queen (and king, for the male readers out there).
Break out the metallics, the shimmer (not head to toe! Wear for example a metallic dress+matte pumps + accessories that won't compete with the dress), the stunning cuts, the long drapes, the incredible silhouettes for this time of the month. As Rachel Zoe would say, "'tis the season". Don't worry about being overdressed, because full on sophisticated glamour is what you want!
The shops are stocked full of amazing items at decent prices, as I have reported in both of the Best Buys of December articles ( http://stylemauritius.blogspot.com/2011/12/best-buys-of-december.html and http://stylemauritius.blogspot.com/2011/12/best-buys-of-december-ii.html)
Here's a little resume of the things I have seen (from left to right):

ALDO shoes and clutch, D@RE black dress, ENVY striped shirt dress, Borboleta GUESS shoes.

Pink asymmetrical dress from Forever Young, purple maxi from Tendances, red pumps with white stripes from Shoe Connection, three hot heels in classic black and fun red and blue from ALDO.

Quipao from Forever Young, a Karen Millen peacock blue dress found at D@RE, pumps from ALDO and pumps from Shoe Connection.

The cutest T-shirt ever from Forever Young, a black dress with gold detail from D@RE, classic Mary-Jane's from Borboleta, tropical print wedges from ALDO.

A tough leather like top and a romantic skirt make a powerful statement from Forever Young, a stunning blue-green dress from ENVY, a layered floral number perfect for Christmas lunch, and a purple maxi with beaded grecian detail.

A cute party dress from Forever Young, two carved out pumps from ALDO, an Asian inspired dress with it's version of an obi belt from D@RE, and the cutest basic top from ENVY

Ibiza wedges and ALDO flats make up your perfect summer shoe wear, whilst the clutch can be transformed from day to night. This yellow dress from Tendances makes for a more interesting choice to a cocktail party than a satin or silk draped number.

Christmas presents for your man: shoes from ALDO. Treat yourselves to these heels from Shoe Connection to instantly update any outfit.

As you can see I've concentrated mainly on shoes and dresses, as for the accessories there are just so many pieces that I love and I have shot them in groups, not individually, so please refer to previous posts to check them out!

Call me a total literary freak, but I really don't think that there are better gifts than books. A good book will inspire you forever, broaden your imagination, change the way you see things and so much more!

From a literary perspective, I love the following books (though these are just some of my favourites, I have tons and tons of books that I adore but for now this is all I can think of as my 'favourite favourite'):
In no order of preference:

1. Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert.
I'm a huge advocate of reading books in their original language so you know exactly what the author intended, but I think in all languages of the world this book is just an absolute masterpiece.
It tells the story of a young woman seduced by a lifestyle that she cannot afford, which in the end, destroys her.

2.L'Etranger by Albert Camus
It's such a short book, I won't describe it, but it really changes the way you see everything forever.

3.The Catcher in the Rye by J.D Salinger
One's feelings of frustration at the ageist mentality prevailing in society, of wanting to do something completely out of your mind, and those really deep, intense, raw thoughts we have during our lives are found here, in a novel that connects and forever marries the reader.

4.Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov
You have to read this simply because of the emotional experience, let alone the content. One very psychologically demanding ride that is totally worth it! It's about a forty-ish year old man who, by his childhood, develops an intense fascination, longing and desire-for prepubescent girls.

5. War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy
A masterpiece. You have to read it, possibly the best book ever written!

Here are some top picks fashion wise:

1. Irreverent by Carine Roitfeld
So inspirational!I finished reading it but I go back to it almost every day for inspiration.

2. The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier, from the Sidewalk to the Catwalk by Thierry-Maxime Loriot(editor) and Suzy Menkes (contributor)
It's under my Christmas tree so I haven't read it yet, but apparently it's gold, and a treasure to keep forever.

3. Fashioning Fashion by  Sharon Sadako Takeda (author), Kaye Durland Spilker (author) and John Galliano (author)
Covering the changes and luxury of European dress of the last two centuries.

4. The Model as Muse: Embodying Fashion by Harold Koda and Kohle Yohannan (Metropolitan Museum of Art)
Name says it all, no? The best models from the start of the 20th century!

5.Extreme Beauty: The Body Transformed (Metropolitan Museum of Art series) by Harold Koda
This book has taught me so much, about both European standards of what is beautiful but also about other cultures, and really how the concept of beauty has evolved over time.

And for the best ever Christmas decorations, head to Espace Maison!

Have an awesome, fun, glamorous week and weekend!
xoxo
