The Best Buys of December

Thursday, December 1, 2011

Note: Unfortunately, because of the HEAT Fashion Tour Final set up (no place for journalists to write etc) I couldn't cover the event, though I tried my very best. To replace the clothes you may have missed, I have decided to go on an island shopping tour, so that you don't have to visit countless shops before deciding what you will splurge on. It's all right here!
Shopping madness has begun! It's time for serious pre-Christmas, shop till you almost faint, extravaganza craziness!

I first visited Forever Young:
They have the most beautiful store. It's like walking into a doll house. Even the changing rooms are made up of very thick curtains in yellow and deep purple, which really give the 'changing into a glamorous new you' feel.
If you click on the photos, you will be directed to a new tab where you can see it in a larger format, so do click and examine each of the accessories and clothes shown below:

They stock toddler clothes (girls only) too! Pieces that make you want to be three again.

The blue dress makes for perfect chilled out island living style, and the sleeveless jacket makes for easy layering (it has a bow detail on the right side),  and it's on sale!

A cool little jacket to wrap yourself in when the night comes, a very pink party dress and a short number to wear (as a dressed down option) on those late barbecue evenings.

A white dress which will be sold out before the New Year (Mauritian tradition), an absolutely stunning asymmetric dark beige dress, a maxi dress that has a tougher top and romantic skirt, and the essential combishort in a pretty flower print.

A maxi dress that is just perfect for hanging out in, and dresses to wear to all the parties this month.

You can wear a quipao even if you're not of Chinese origin, by the way, as long as it fits right! This is a stunning number that comes in different colours. Next to it are the cutest t-shirts ever to be worn all summer!

Below are several pairs of shoes that you can find in Ibiza or Forever Young.

My favourite pairs are the wedges, photos above. The perfect summer shoe, that is both wearable, comfortable and adds height

Note that some of the shoes shown are from the Ibiza shop.

Here are more accessories (mostly bags, clutches and the like):
Don't forget to click on the photo if you want to see it in closer detail.

I was dead impressed by this. The shoe wall! So many pairs of cute sandals!

Diesel was up next:

Yes, it’s the winter collection. And who cares? The ‘don’t give a *’ attitude is the essence of Diesel itself. Of course, although the heavier items will be worn by those travelling to the colder climates this year (seriously, if you’re planning to go to the northern hemisphere, Diesel is your one stop shop for the best jackets and gear), the lighter items-silk dresses, tops and the like-make for lovely gifts (to others and to yourself) this summer.

Why don't more Mauritian men wear bags? You surely can't expect me to believe that with a bag like the one shown above, men don't look masculine. The opposite is true. Fashion and style do not exclusively belong to women.

Diesel is one of the labels that offers the best in denim.

My personal favourite is the burnt red silk dress you can see above.

I took a photo of a couple of very cutely dressed girls in Caudan:

They were adorable. When I asked them if I could have their picture taken, it was an immediate 'yes', compared to other people who start fretting. If you're relaxed, the picture will always turn out great!

Girls (and guys) go nuts over ALDO. Absolutely crackers. Presenting the cutest pairs of the season, that are definitely worth saving up money for!

ALDO also sells accessories such as bags, clutches and jewellery. I love this fire-engine red clutch with the matching patent shoe.

Every girl should own a pair of staple heels in beige and black!

Stunning beaded clutch, paired with a tribal glam pair of flats, make for instant style factor

Here are some mens' shoes, some in classic cuts, others in upbeat forms.

Below is a small selection of accessories:

The ribbon necklace, adorned with bows and pearls is my favourite. Innocent glamour with a retro 50s feel-very on trend.

The first week of the tour ended with Fashion House:

I love how on walking in, the Christmas decorations have already been placed, snowman and igloo in tow!

 And now, to the clothes:

This was what was presented in the Summer 2012 collection, I have provided the link below. There are some pieces that are from the last collection, and others that I can't remember seeing before but I love.

They sell accessories, too. Click on the picture!

Nautical themed tops, and the prettiest polka dot jacket, below:

I love the ladybird print t-shirt, 3rd photo (left to right).

There was a ladylike feel to the Summer 2012 collection, that was in line with what was observed in the international scene. An easy way to go lady is to pair an innocent ruffled blouse, tucked under a pencil skirt that hits the knee, as seen above.

Some colour blocking examples. Colour blocking had its big moment for Summer 2011, and has become a little more toned down now I believe.

Here are some of my favourite pieces of the Summer 2012 show:

News, News, and more News:

Annabelle Fleury's new collection, Demoiselle:

Many designers have been inspired by the ocean-Armani, Karl Lagerfeld and Sarah Burton-and so has Annabelle Fleury. Her latest collection, Demoiselle (double meaning: demoiselle as in woman and also of the fish species) takes elements of our lagoons and ocean, the flora and fauna which make our waters their home such as anemone, cabbage coral and starfish, and then translates them through cut, detail and colour in lightweight fabric such as cotton and jersey-100% wearable for the Mauritian woman.

We will miss you!

Emma Thiternik Grigoryan is leaving Mauritius, and everyone who knows her or has contemplated her work is going NO!! The superwoman has accomplished an incredible number of shoots these few months, and you can view them on her facebook page:http://www.facebook.com/thiternik

One of the most viewed shoots in recent weeks was the Guess/Victoria’s Secret themed shoot, Heart Candy, with Raquel Rault, who has maintained the status of ‘it’ girl since 2009 and is instantly recognizable ( The Are You Living It? Campaign by a local bank, the BSKG campaigns, Lifestyle Magazine, IV Play,Dharna Hassija, Forever Young, the Ipanema fashion show etc, etc, etc). People are very much interested in her modelling career, and not without reason. Incredibly photogenic (when I covered the So Chic So C show and my boyfriend took photos of her for the first time, the results were astounding. Not a single bad shot of her. None.), great bone structure and hourglass figure measurements-1m71, 89-69-89-she became a Mauritian icon.
See the shoot here:

And the party season kicks off with...
