There is no life without colour. Even black, which is technically the absence of colour, is still a power in its own right.
Life was predominant that night, and trust me anyone wearing one of Sweetie's one of a kind creations is extremely lucky. You may have noticed that she did not employ young models to wear the clothes, instead choosing women older than 20. It infused all of her pieces with maturity but also accessibility-you don't need to be a model to be able to wear Possal.
Remember when I was at her Atelier back in July (http://stylemauritius.blogspot.com/2011/07/possal.html)?
There were clothes on the racks that were not completed yet, and here you can see them today. All of the pieces were created with the greatest skill, blending in Sweetie's colourful yet polished sense of aesthetic.
Everything is in the detail, the cut. From the lace detail on the arm in the first dress from the left, to the stunning black dress (4th from left) which has a 70s feel in its cut, which drapes oh so perfectly over the woman's body, nothing was amiss.
The creme dress with black brocade running along the collar bone to the arms and on the bottom of the dress. Think that's the only detail? Zoom on the dress. There are diamonds (the shape, obviously!) with a spot in the centre covering the entire material. Its glamorous antiquity brought to the 21st century.
The black dress has a satin sheen, with transparent black fabric as sleeves. This was a common theme in the collection, which adds movement to the pieces and adds a subtle vamp glamour.
This black dress has lace detail arms, as well as a lace body underneath a satin one, which again fits the 'dark glamour' mood that was present in the Autumn/Winter 2012 runways. It's a very sexy dress, and makes a powerful statement on its own so do NOT go the vampire route by wearing it with red stilettos, heavy dark eyeshadow and red lipstick (in fact, never ever focus both on eyeshadow and on lipstick-keep one of them subtle). Just add a pair of metallic strappy sandals ( not very high though-a 5inch+heel with this will turn a beautiful outfit trashy), with a classy handbag or clutch and natural makeup, preferably with a smoky eye.
This is a great after work dress that can also be worn during the day with flat shoes and a tote. Easy day to night transitional dressing, paired with heels and the right evening accessories!
This dress is also great for transitional dressing from day to night. For work or during the day, pair with ballet flats or a pump (depending on your work-if you are a journalist working in pumps isn't going to be very comfortable), a thin black patent belt, and accessories-though I would suggest going for bracelets rather than a necklace because of the neckline of the dress. For night, switch the shoes and make them high heeled, with a pop of colour (say red), a cute bag/ clutch and you are ready to go!
The next dress shows that Sweetie gets the skin covered/skin shown ratio perfectly-the legs are shown but the arms and back covered, something that in Mauritius is not common.I love it-it's both fun and sophisticated whilst keeping it classy, though I would not wear those boots (or any boots) or that hat with it.
Lastly comes a kaftan that is fit for a queen, with the most amazing structure of lines that transform the woman into a powerful being. A word of caution, though: A very strong print+fabric that covers almost the entire body is to be worn by women that have the stature to be able to carry it off (that is, quite tall), otherwise it may look as if you are swamped.
September the 7th marked the start of New York Fashion Week. As soon as the fashion weeks for Spring/Summer 2012 are done, you know I will be reporting on all the latest trends and how to adopt it to your style here. I will also be writing about the best shows I have noted so far during the fashion weeks too-time waits for no-one.
My expectations? I am expecting some sort of Royal Wedding acknowledgement, especially from London fashion week ( though America shows great promise too). Perhaps something concerning liberation too, although the theme was explored this year in the vamp/dominatrix/fetish trend (liberation yet restriction). In any case, I am really excited!
Have a great week and amazing weekend!
xoxo
