Patchwork

Friday, July 17, 2015

Patchwork was introduced to me as a freshman in high school as a technique used to recycle and incorporate old materials or garments into something new. It took me a while to wrap my head around the three-dimensional nature of sewing inseams together but really it is, quite simple. And the end results can be nothing short of extraordinary. Although more notable in its use for decorative pieces and things such as quilts, its slowly gaining traction in the fashion world. This coincides with analysts scrambling to predict the repercussions of the Greek debt crisis on the Eurozone and internationally. Of course, Jeremy Scott planned his Fall 2015 collection months in advanced and took inspiration from vintage, rather than economic instability. Still, I find it interesting to see what correlations and causative relationships economists make about fashion. Whether there is any link at all between the two events, it means a lot more colour on the runways and streets. As a lover of both colour and texture I couldn't be happier!
