Nestled in the Floreal lifestyle cocoon, S'Mall and Chic, Libertie is probably the first thing you'll see as you scan the building. A white, vintage bicycle is propped against the first floor window, already setting the mood of the whole shop: airy, light, feminine, sophisticated.
It seems only fitting that the owner's name is of Greek legend. Dan’ae de Robillard started out privately selling her pieces in 2012. Success came quickly: her first boutique opened in March 2014, and a year later she moved to the chicer locales of S'Mall. Libertie houses several Mauritian labels, as well as a French and Malagasy clothing brand.
It's a one stop shop for the best in Mauritian lifestyle: delicate, intricate pieces ranging from her own label, Strawberry Jam (specialising in women's nightwear), to children's clothing featuring the cutest patchwork prints, to Malagasy-made cashmere label Arabesque.

I love how everything is very much in tune with our island life: there isn't a piece that couldn't, indeed shouldn't, form part of your every day life. Two particular favourites are Made in Mauritius brands Strawberry Jam, Dan'ae's own, and Save a Sail. It's so ridiculously difficult to find fun, cute pyjamas here that Strawberry Jam comes as a lifesaver - and the label offers everything, from chemises in the most flattering cuts, to the lightest slip-on tops: perfect for any temperature.
Save a Sail recycles old sails into the most gorgeous, metallic-tinged rucksacks, pouches and cases: an example of ethical commerce done absolutely right.
Other highlights from the shop include the softest wraps made for those cool winter evenings, the cutest sequin dresses, and prints that are totally devoid of the cliché fanfare one so often finds with resort wear.
The decoration is to die for: little rocking horses in bleached wood, a bird cage, bicycles, and gorgeous hanging chandeliers. ‘Dream’ is prominently set in block wood letters: Libertie is indeed a space of reverie.
Dan'ae is currently working on her men's collection, but her winter pieces are already in store - make sure to come and visit!

P.S Libertie even sells dolls, hand-made by artisans of the Magesse Ltd company under the label 'Mon Doudou'. Each doll has her own name and everything. How cute is that?
