I apologize for not posting for an entire month! I really didn't know how hectic my life would become with the magazine. After four months of intensive shooting, the magazine is finally ready and will be launched on Friday, the 27th of September, at the Hennessy Hotel (Ebene).
This is the official facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/Peoplefashionissue
Some teasers are definitely in order, with little stories accompanying them :)
Here is the first in the series.
This is from Sanjeet Boolell's photo shoot.
Designer: Sanjeet Boolell
Model: Genevive Bruno
Photographer: Karen Pang
Working with Sanjeet was really fun. We had no make-up artist that day, as no-one was available.
So guess who had to do the make-up? Karen, Sanjeet and I. None of us are make-up artists and had a clue of what they were doing - except for Sanjeet. He knew exactly what he wanted!
Sanjeet is also very laid back, so we experimented a lot that day. Hence the photo with the cross, above. It wasn't meant to be provocative, though it probably did shock a few. We only focussed on creating something beautiful.
That cane you see in the photo? There are plenty of them in a sort of umbrella holder in Eureka. They are, as Sanjeet explained, originally used to help ease the sole into a shoe. It made for a brilliant prop, perfectly matching the mood.
Genevieve was the best model we could ever wish for. She is so tall - 1m83 - and can really become any character you want. She only needed a little guidance, we were all in awe.
From the beginning of the shoots in Eureka we were all a little freaked out of the crib - which reminds me, I've never shown you a photo of the house.
Well here it is, below. It's only the view from one of the gardens: Eureka is an estate. It's one of the few colonial houses that still stands firm to this day (many were torn down).
The owner of the house, Jacques de Maroussem, claims that it is haunted.
Now this is an interesting story, so I shall digress:
There was a young girl who used to live in Eureka, named Estelle. She grew up and died in the colonial epoch, where slavery was the norm. Here is her portrait:
Attracted to one of the slaves, Estelle makes love to him, and was caught. She was immediately imprisoned in the attic, where she would remain until her death. The intercourse resulted in her pregnancy, and the child was drowned. When some servants opened up the attic one day they found that her fingers had been eaten by rats. She turned mad, and no-one cared for her, or offered any help.
I really wish this was just a horror story, but its probably true. And there are many other cases like it: people don't usually remember, or want to remember, the horrors caused by slavery.
And...guess what?
NONE of the teaser photos are featured in the magazine! So don't think you've seen it all, haha!
