I dived into the PEOPLE project head first, without thinking much about what I should plan or anticipate. To be honest, I couldn't have anticipated anything: I had never organised or assisted a 'proper' photo shoot before, and had no idea what to expect.
One of the incredibly important things to know when you're organising a photo shoot is that make-up will end up on clothes 98% of the time. Even if you are extra careful.
And unless the care label reads DRY CLEAN ONLY, you can simply and effectively remove make-up stains without going to the dry cleaners (saving you both time and money).
The two golden rules below are a compilation of advice given to me by Anne-lise Ramooloo, Khatleen Minerve, and Saskia Pougnet.
1. Do not wash the whole garment in the washing machine. Instead, take these two fundamental tools:
"Brosse a dents, Monsieur Propre."
In other words,
A clean, used toothbrush and a good detergent.
Use the toothbrush and detergent to gently and efficiently remove make-up on specific areas of clothes.
Now, an important thing to remember is:
2. NEVER put the detergent directly on the fabric!!
Test the detergent first. Place the tiniest drop on the seam of the garment and wait around half an hour. If no bleaching or fabric damage whatsoever arises, proceed with the detergent in cleaning the garment. Wet the garment first, and then gently start scrubbing with the toothbrush and detergent.
Two simple rules, effective make-up removal.
