CTI Fashion Show

Thursday, September 29, 2011

The CTI (that's Charles Telfair Institute) fashion show and open day was held on Wednesday, 28th of September.
Blending in the best in models of the school with pretty new faces, and the best in commercial and designer brands, it was a huge success. The fashion show would not have attained the degree of professionalism if it were not for the models who were willing to stay up very late for rehearsals, David Stafford who came and trained the girls to walk properly and helped with the choreography, the brands who were incredibly nice and generous when lending us the clothes, and all the staff and people involved in this whole process.
Kitty Philips sponsored the event by giving the models jewellery to wear-beautiful, delicate pieces that can be worn dressed up or down, and are a perfect gift. No-one needs to show off their emotions with flashy jewellery, simple but beautifully crafted pieces are perfect.

The show started off with Possal by Sweetie Ramlagun.

Possal by Sweetie Ramlagun is obviously a very strong collection, with clothes that are pieces of art just waiting to be worn and enjoyed. The fact that the models brilliantly wore all the pieces reinforces the fact that Possal is for everyone.
All of the clothes were fun, infused with grace, timelessness and above all, absolute class and sophistication. It really is totally worth it to save a little extra money to spend on one of these incredible pieces.

Celio then showcased their clothes.

Celio really does cater to the Mauritian man in all aspects of his life, from a day out on the beach, to casual activities like university or just hanging out with friends,to formal events where he wants something well-cut without frivolity. The beautiful calming palettes in white, blue, grey and black are guaranteed to max out the style factor in his wardrobe.

Next up was Patti Jones, which supplies the cutest hats and fascinators for those occasions where a proper, lady-like hat is absolutely required.

I'm already anticipating the question you are going to ask: When is a hat absolutely required?
A hat is not given its true value in Mauritius. It really is an unbeatable style item and every girl should own many of them in different styles. They completely transform and lift an outfit up to new heights, as well as adding this incredible charm. In my opinion, hats are a statement that can be worn everyday.
Anything formal usually requires a good hat, such as a day at the races in the Champ de Mars, or a luncheon.

Lady M sells jewellery, and the gems they use radiated magnificently against the light, it was perpetual shine all the way.
On the subject of jewellery: Never wear both a statement necklace and earrings at the same time. It is too much and weighs down the face considerably.

Annabelle Fleury's latest collection, Osiris, was then showcased. The Mauritian Top Model Karen Nicolini opened and closed the show.

Those clothes have transformational capabilities, I assure you. Even if you have curves that you know look awkward in second-skin clothing , Annabelle Fleury makes the dresses fit so amazingly well against the body that everything is enhanced and looks fantastic. Beautiful pieces in amazing colours!

Liquid was next:

Liquid offers pieces that are infused with pop life, relaxed Mauritian living and are very easy to wear.

Forever Young was one of the most fun collections of the day.

Who can honestly say that they haven't fallen in love with Forever Young? I have, time and time again. It is just the embodiment of a young, free spirit, of a Mauritian girl that has European influences but brings it down to her island chic style. The clothes are really reasonably priced as well! And the accessories are amazing. I have been looking for the perfect straw hat for a while now and found the perfect one there!
What's great about Forever Young is that they dress girls for their age, which is a big problem here. Either girls dress like they are 13 when they are 23 or dress like 30+ when they are 19 and don't know how to bring  fun+classy together. Any pieces in store guarantees maximum chic and age-appropriate wear.
Their new shop has just opened in Caudan, so you had better hurry because these pieces are going to sell out FAST.

Go Sport then followed:

Stylish Sportswear. Yes, it's possible, and Go Sport is the place to go for your sporting needs whilst still remaining impeccably stylish. There is no excuse to wear old tracksuits to the gym or out training!

Peche Mignon was the before last collection to be presented.

No matter what your figure, Peche Mignon will make you look good. You can find really fun, cute pieces there, such as the striped jumpsuit, that give life to your wardrobe. They also stock the nicest broderie anglaise white cotton shirts that I have seen in a long time.

In'Am by Ilup was the last collection presented at the show.

Trust me, the pieces showcased are simply fantastic. The feel of cashmere and perfectly woven material is just so luxuriously appealing, no-one can resist. From beautifully crafted kaftans, shirts scarves and dresses, every detail has been looked after, every print perfectly placed, every colour infusing the wearer with natural radiance.
Thus it was the perfect ending to an awesome show.

Next Thursday I will write on Milan and Paris Fashion Week and Nalini Aubeeluck's new collection as well as an interview with the designer.

Have a great week and awesome weekend!
xoxo
Alex
