Poison Ivy

Saturday, July 25, 2015

Wearing: Vintage jacket, Romance Was Born skirt, thrifted top and heels.

Please excuse this throwback to an obnoxious 1980s game show host, minus the tall quiffed hair but I was in a mood where I wanted to wear lots of purple and green. This colour scheme also encapsulates many Poison Grass type Pokemon as well as the Batman villain and total badass Poison Ivy- ergo uninspired blog post title. Even though it's Winter the garden has remained lush and vibrant which has really inspired me to spend more time outside. By far the best part of this year has been spent learning more about nature, particularly plants and fungi, in order to better understand how ecosystems interact as a whole. Basically nature is great and so inspiring and I can't imagine a point where I'd be so jaded I'd be incapable of appreciating its beauty.
Also, it's about this time of year that someone either online or IRL tells me that I need to cover my dark circles or do something about the bags under my eyes. Huzzah! I've come up with the perfect solution (although I'm not the originator):

Today I thought I'd share my beauty tip for

1. Buy glitter.
2. Cover dark circles.
3. Free yourself from the patriarchy.

Real witches don't wear black

Tuesday, May 19, 2015

Wearing: Meadham Kirchhoff X Topshop dress, deadstock tights, POMS earrings, Topshop zebra print jacket and Atilin saddle shoes.

One of my favourite things to do is take a well-known troupe and deconstruct it and then rebuild it in my own image. Witchy chic is one of those things normally associated with lots of black, dried rose petals and wooden trinket boxes but instead I decided to make it more cute and kitsch. While I admit this look definitely needs like a cute pentagram necklace or something I am happy with how it turned out. I've been so busy wearing my Asos faux fur coat that I totally forgot about this zebra piece for a little while. It's not exactly versatile but it is super fun to wear with other patterns such as this dress. The weather is finally cold enough that I can wear these cute tights again and I no longer feel that it's necessary to wear a petticoat with this dress. I think it demonstrates that slowly I am growing in confidence not just in terms of my outfits but also my body type.

Glitter Bomb

Wednesday, May 6, 2015

I've recently started watching videos from runway shows as a break from my usual routine of sifting through the literature and continuously editing what I have so far. It seemed fitting that I watch the Romance Was Born Mushroom Magic collection given how much I enjoyed their last presentation Bush Magic. In an instant I was reminded of all the lovely dresses and pieces I wish they had made available en masse but also the detail of each look. What really grabbed my attention though was the lovely use of glitter as an unorthodox lipstain. It made me think of all the zines and comics advocating the use of stickers as zit concealers but in a way that was far more extravagant.
