Sorry for the delay with this post, I'm working on a massive project and teasers will be coming up soon.

So though the sky is of a brilliant, clear blue, and the sun's out, there is a fresh wind blowing, and temperatures are set to plunge next week. Europeans reading this may go "ha ha, they are complaining about 10 degrees!" but because of our climate, 10 degrees can end up being bitterly cold. Three homeless people have died recently due to the cold, and there's a bad virus around (I'm writing this with five boxes of tissues around me).

The first thing that is crucial to understand is that it is cold in the morning and very warm in the afternoon, and then the temperature plunges again right after sunset. People dismiss this and think that either:
a) Because it's going to be warm, they don't bother with a jumper when it gets colder.
b) Because it's cold at certain points, they wear wool and thick fabrics...even when they're at Port Louis and its midday and its boiling.

I said it last year and I'll say it again, the trick is layering and the right pieces of clothing.

For the moment, don't bother with tights (please don't wear leggings), it's not cold enough for that, and you can't easily remove tights in the midday sun on the street. I saw a girl wearing shorts and tights the other day, don't do that, it was a look worn by the masses a couple of years ago on the streets (2011/2012) and looks passé.

My to-go piece for trans-seasonal dressing (because it's not really winter yet), is a shirt.
Roll the sleeves up when it gets warmer, loosen the top button. Keep a nice jumper in your bag to layer up when twilight comes.  Wear it with jeans, a skirt, or tucked into shorts (talking about shorts, please never wear short shorts, very few women have the bum for it and it looks trashy 99.9% of the time).

Shirt from Topshop

Denim shirt from Asos.com

Another alternative is a light knit. As with the shirt, you can roll up the sleeves when it gets warm. I love the selection of knits at In'Am.

Here are a couple of looks I love and recommend immediate adoption:

This was posted on British Vogue's Facebook page. The woman here is Kata Balogh. She has a denim shirt tied around her waist, so she can layer up when it gets colder.

This is a photo sourced from Lookbook.nu, from Nory Aradi. It's a beautiful look to wear in Mauritius, and should keep you warm enough.

This is our very own Jasmina Ruben, who has mastered Mauritian trans-seasonal weather.

This is another look I found on Lookbook.nu, from Jennifer W. This is how you should wear your jacket/blazer.

Avoid sandals in the Plaine Whilems region next week, stick to ballet flats/converse/loafers. You won't need boots just now, but if you do, stick to ankle boots, or if it really does get very cold, wear boots that are below the middle of your calves. Do not touch thigh high boots or those ones that are bulky and in suede (please don't!). And please, do not wear Uggs.

Some of you reading this will be working somewhere hot like Port Louis during the day - don't leave your blazer at home. Wear it like a cape, over your shoulders, when you leave the office for lunch (as seen in the photo above).

Stay warm!
xoxo
Alex
